Frontier hardware design

Customers such as US Special Forces Command began asking for ruggedized versions of Hivecell.

We designed the original Baranovsky connectors for a desktop, not harsh environments. After investigating it became clear that evolving the existing Hivecell was not the answer. There were too many built in assumptions in the design. We needed to start with a clean sheet of paper.

Once again we worked with the amazing team at Tomorrow Lab. Some of the design is available in their portfolio site.

Approach

We decided that the overhead cost of connectors and encasement was too expensive for individual small servers. Instead, we created an environmental case that contained seven servers, six for customer use and one for (5G) communications, routing and management.

The core of the challenge was solving for heating and cooling.

Design

The final design can be strapped to a building, stacked on a factory floor or even placed in existing 15 inch racks.
